2016/2017 Academic Year Opening Arrangements

Kamuzu College of Nursing, a constituent College of the University of Malawi, is pleased to inform all first year generic and post basic students, all UCM students and all continuing students that first semester for the 2016/2017 academic year begins on Tuesday, 18th October, 2016. However, all new students are required to report to the College on 03rd October, 2016 for orientation. First year students selected to study Bachelor of Science in Adult Health, Child Health, Community Health, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing and Midwifery will be allocated at KCN Blantyre Campus and should report at Old campus behind Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH). While those selected to study Nursing and Midwifery will be allocated at KCN Lilongwe campus and should report at KCN Lilongwe campus next to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH). Second year students studying Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery shall report at Lilongwe campus next to Kamuzu Central Hospital. Second year students studying Bachelor of Science in Adult Health, Child Health, Community Health, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing and Midwifery shall report at Blantyre Kameza campus. Third year students shall report at KCN Lilongwe Campus next to Kamuzu Central Hospital. Fourth year students will be based at KCN Lilongwe campus next to Kamuzu Central Hospital but should proceed to their allocated clinical sites. Arrival and Registration: Monday 03rd October, 2016 for beginning students, and Tuesday 18th October, 2016 for continuing students from 8:30am at all campuses.
Tuition Fees
All first year generic students are required to pay a financial contribution of MK 400, 000.00 or at least half, MK 200, 000.00 before registration. All first year Post Basic and UCM students are required to pay MK 950, 000. 00 or at least half, MK 475, 000. 00 before registration. All continuing generic students are required to pay MK 350, 000. 00 or at least half, MK 175, 000. 00 before registration. All continuing Post Basic students are required to pay MK 950, 000. 00 or at least half, MK 475, 000. 00 before registration. Mode of Payment: Bank Fees should be paid in advance through the following bank account and bring a deposit slip during registration: Bank name                         :              National Bank, Lilongwe Branch Account Name                  :               KCN Main Account Account Number             :                321068 In addition to University of Malawi recommended financial contribution, first year generic students are required to bring the following:
  1. MK 17, 800.00 Nurses Council Indexing and Professional File fees to be paid in College within 30 days of registration. Please do not deposit this money in the bank.
  2. Original MSCE Certificate/Notification of results
  3. Two passport size photographs
  4. Uniforms

Females

2 white dresses (or skirt and blouse)  and 2 Nurses’ caps;

Males  

2 white safari suits and 2 epaulets;

      All students 

     2 pairs of black covered flat shoes

  1. Stethoscope
  2. Thermometer
  3. Nurses’ Watch
  4. Blood Pressure machine
  5. A blue or white cardigan for females
  6. 2 green dresses for females (required during Community Health Nursing experience)
  7. 2 green dust coats for males (required during Community Health Nursing experience)
  8. 1 pair of white gumboots for Medical Surgical, Maternal and Child Health Nursing experience.
Accomodation
The College has limited accommodation at a fee and all first year students who would like to stay on campus should apply for reservation to the following address: College Registrar, Private Bag 1, Lilongwe. Email: registrar@kcn.unima.mw. The cost of College Accommodation is MK 40, 000.00 per Semester. NOTE
  1. For all those offered College accommodation, keys to rooms will only be issued upon production of bank deposit slip for tuition and accommodation fees.
  2. All continuing students should check with the college if their application for accommodation was successful else look for accommodation outside the campus.
