Kamuzu College of Nursing has the approval of the University of Malawi Senate and that of the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi to offer a three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery (BScNM) upgrading program targeting Nursing and Midwifery Technicians.
This development is in response to the needs expressed by the Ministry of Health and Population, who is the main employer of nurses and midwives in Malawi; from the Nursing and Midwifery Technicians and from all other key stakeholders. Findings from needs assessment and recommendations from consultative meetings informed the development of this three year BScNM upgrading programme.
The programme intends to produce a multi-skilled and competent registered nurse/midwife, who will be equipped with the following skills: managerial, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making. These skills will enable the graduate to competently provide quality and comprehensive preventive, curative and rehabilitative nursing care to individuals, families and communities at all levels. The programme will further prepare the graduate with interpersonal and entrepreneurial skills. The
programme will be offered in three years and the candidates will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery.
Candidates should have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with 6 credits including credits in English, Physical Science/General Science, Mathematics and Biology and the following diplomas for them to be admitted as follows:

All successful Malawian candidates shall be expected to pay tuition fees of MK 950,000.00 (Nine Hundred and Fifty Thousand Malawi Kwacha) per academic year for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery (Upgrading) Programme.
All successful international candidates from the SADC region shall be expected to pay tuition fees of USD5,621.00 per academic year while those from non SADC countries shall pay tuition fees of USD 12, 198.17 per academic year.
All other fees such as medical fees, accommodation e.t.c. shall be advised by the College from time to time depending on mutual agreements and availability.
