This core module builds on master’s level coursework on leadership, management, and policy in health care. It is designed to prepare doctoral students in leadership, management and health policy. Learners will apply theories in health care leadership, management, and health policy frameworks. They will analyze organizational behavior and leadership to identify challenges. Additionally, learners will analyze health policy to improve health care outcomes; and one’s leadership style to identify and develop a personal leadership plan to guide future professional development.

Module Aim

To equip students with knowledge and skills in leadership, management and health policy to improve health care/delivery through leadership, management, and health policy processes.

Module Outcomes

  • Analyze a variety of leadership and management theories and apply to situations in healthcare settings.
  • Analyze organizational structure, process and culture, and how they impact on outcomes.
  • Advocate for change management
  • Advocate for leadership and health policy
  • Analyse health policy using evidence-based approaches
  • Collaborate inter-professional teams to improve health care delivery and strengthening health systems
  • Perform a self-evaluation of management and leadership styles, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Discuss effective leadership and management styles learned from this module.
  • Communicate effectively in various settings
