The module builds on knowledge from the basic epidemiological concepts. It focuses on the application of epidemiological research to population health in order to prevent and control diseases.

The aim is to provide advanced knowledge and skills that will enable students to understand the concepts and apply methods of epidemiology in disease prevention and control. Emphasis is on collecting, analyzing, interpretations and application of population-based data.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of this module learners shall be able to:

  • Examine the evolution of epidemiology and its application to CHN practice
  • Discuss disease causation and levels of prevention
  • Discuss epidemiologic measurements of morbidity and mortality
  • Evaluate epidemiologic studies
  • Explain epidemic investigation and management
  • Explain epidemiological surveillance
  • Discuss epidemiologic application
