This module is designed to enable learners to practice child nursing at advanced level.  The module builds on knowledge gained from  Biosciences, Leadership and Management, Research  and child nursing speciality modules in the provision of advanced hospital and community child health care.  Emphasis is placed on promoting evidence based and culturally sensitive care. Learners are also encouraged to be innovative and demonstrate ability to interpret the physiological, sociological, psychological and spiritual processes and their implications on child health outcomes

Aims of Module

To enable learners provide advanced care to children and their families in hospital and community based settings

Module Outcomes

Upon completion of this module learners shall be able to:

  • Demonstrate competence in providing advanced care to children and their families.
  • Initiate change in children’s  care protocols and guidelines based on available resources
  • Utilize appropriate decision making strategies during provision of children’s care in a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate appropriate monitoring and evaluation skills during provision of children’s care
  • Demonstrate leadership role in managing children’s wards and clinics
  • Initiate continuing professional development programs for the multidisciplinary health care team based on identified learning needs.
