Opening Arrangements for 2020/2021 Academic Year

Kamuzu College of Nursing, a constituent College of the University of Malawi, is pleased to inform all first year generic, first year post basic, first year upgrading, University Certificate in Midwifery, first year Master of Science and first year Doctor of Philosophy students that first semester for the 2020/2021
academic year shall begin on Monday, January 11 2021. All new students shall attend orientation for two weeks from January 11 to January 22 2021.

  1. All students under the following programs shall report at Blantyre Campus behind Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH):
    • Master of Science in Child Health Nursing
    • Master of Science in Reproductive Health
    • Master of Science in Midwifery
    • Master of Science in Mental Health (Nursing)
    • Master of Science in Mental Health (Public Mental Health Care)
  2. All students under the following programs shall report at KCN Kameza Campus in Blantyre:
    • Bachelor of Science in Adult Health Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science in Child Health Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science in Community Health Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science in Midwifery
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Interprofessional Health Care Leadership
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Midwifery
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing
  3. All students under the following programs shall report at Lilongwe Campus near Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH):
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery (Generic)
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery (Upgrading)
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post Basic): Adult Health Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post Basic): Child Health Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post Basic): Community Health Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post Basic): Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post Basic): Nursing and Midwifery Education
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post Basic): Health Service Management
    • Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (Post Basic)
    • University Certificate in Midwifery
    • Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing
    • Master of Science in Community Health Nursing
    • Master of Science in Nursing and Midwifery Education

Registration

Registration shall be on-going from January 11, 2021 to January 22, 2021 from 8:30 a.m.
Tuition Fees
Fees are currently at K400, 000 per year for all first-year generic students. Tuition fees for post basic, upgrading and UCM programs are currently at K950, 000 per year. Tuition fees for all master’s programs are currently at K3, 601, 110. 00 for year one and K4, 198, 650. 00 for year two. Tuition fees for all PhD programs are currently at K4, 580, 220. 00 per year.

Students must pay at least half of the fees before registration. All fees should be paid through the bank in advance. All new students should contact the College for their unique bank account numbers.

Additional Requirements for First Year Generic Students

In addition to University of Malawi recommended financial contribution, first year generic students are required to bring the following:

  • K60, 000 Nurses Council Indexing and Professional File fees to be paid in College within 30 days of registration. Please do not deposit this money into the KCN bank account.
  • Original MSCE Certificate
  • Two passport size photographs
  • Uniform:
    • Females – 2 white dresses (or skirt & blouse / pair of trousers and blouse) and 2 Nurses’ caps.
    • Males – 2 white safari suits and 2 epaulets.
    • All students – 2 pairs of black covered flat shoes and a Name Tag.
    • Stethoscope
    • Thermometer
    • Nurses’ Watch
    • Blood Pressure machine
    • A blue or white cardigan for females
    • A green apron for females (required during Community Health Nursing experience)
    • A green dust coat for males (required during Community Health Nursing experience)
    • A pair of white gumboots for Medical Surgical, Maternal and Child Health Nursing experience.
    • Face masks

College Accommodation

The College has no accommodation for new students in the 2020/2021 academic year because the previous cohort is still in session. All new students are therefore, being advised to search for accommodation closer to the campus they have been assigned to.
