International Collaboration

Currently KCN is collaborating with University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) on joint research on HIV prevention using the Peer Group Education Model. KCN is also linking with the AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC-AITRP)

There is also an opportunity for KCN to collaborate with UIC (Public Health), UIC (Nursing), (UIC-AITRP) and the Great Lakes Centre for AIDS Research (CFAR), a consortium of AIDS researchers from Northwestern University, universities of Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin & the College of Medicine in Blantyre on projects for HIV involving prevention, pathogenesis, virology, immunology and transmission. Proposals for funding will be channeled to the Comprehensive International Programme of Research on AIDS (CIPRA)

Plans are to underway to jointly implement the Peer Group Intervention for HIV prevention with University of Pennsylvania for the next 3 years. Through a link with UIC, and other partners, we will obtain structural support to develop and sustain a Primary health care nursing research center. There is potential to collaborate with Bell college of Nursing in Scotland, Helsinki Polytechnic in Norway, University of Ulster , Manchester University, and Institute of Child Development in UK, Edith Cowan University Australia, Case Western University in USA.

Regional Collaboration

Already there are working relationships with Botswana University and there is great
potential for collaboration in research with the faculty of nursing and the WHO Collaborating centre.

We will also make plans to collaborate with University of South Africa WHO collaborating centre. Within the Region, there is a College of Nursing East South and Central African College of Nursing (ESCACON) to which the members of SADC belong. The Research centre will collaborate with countries through the existing link of ESCACON, WHO collaborating Center in Botswana and other relevant organizations.

National Collaboration

KCN has working relationships with the MOHP, Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi, National Association of Nurses, Association of Midwives in Malawi. Through this network the college shall propose agenda for collaboration research.

KCN also has working relationships and individual faculty members have offered consultancy to some organizations e.g. UNFPA, UNDP, WHO, UNICEF, JICA, Project Hope & Safe Motherhood, Save the Children (US), Save the Children (UK). The college will utilize these links to build an institutional capacity to conduct research for there organizations or in partnership with these organizations.
